What You Should Expect After Your First Appointment
After the first visit many patients will return to our clinic for additional testing and/or treatment. Many of our patients are working professionals who have very busy schedules. We respect the value of your time and have therefore structured our program to run on a tight time schedule for all appointments in a sincere effort to minimize delays and inconveniences.
We are committed to providing efficient, high quality health care with superior service to all our patients. Once you begin fertility treatment, it will usually include ultrasound and blood work. These appointments are scheduled between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. The reason we have you arrive during this time is so we can provide same day results. We have a fully functioning laboratory which allows our staff to call you in the afternoon with results for most tests. Some blood tests are completed on a weekly basis. If you have a weekly blood test completed, we will inform you when you should expect a phone call with those results.
Because we ask all of our patients to arrive between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. for ultrasounds and blood work, there may be days where you have an extended wait time. When you receive treatment at OU Physicians Reproductive Medicine, each provider will participate with hands-on management of your case throughout your treatment. You will not see an Ultrasound Technologist; you will see one of our providers. (On occasion one of our nurses may complete the ultrasound for you). We will do our best to inform you of any delays. We apologize in advance if you experience a wait time longer than normal.
Typical appointment and phone call times (subject to change as needed) are as follows:
- Ultrasounds and blood work: 7:30- 8:30 a.m. (Weekdays)
- Weekend and Holiday ultrasound and blood work: 8:00 a.m.
- Artificial inseminations: 11:00 and 11:30 a.m. (Completed by the nurse)(Weekdays)
- Weekend artificial inseminations: 8:30-9:00 a.m. (Completed by the nurse or provider)
- Consultations: 11:00, 11:30, 3:00 p.m.
- Phone calls with daily lab results and returned messages: 2:00-4:30 p.m.
We believe in a teamwork problem-solving approach, so there may be times when you will see one of our other providers and occasionally one of our nurses for your ultrasound and blood work appointment. Each day our entire clinical staff reviews the charts and treatment plans for the patients seen in the office that day. Please know that even though your provider may not see you for your appointment, they will be involved in making decisions about your care.
The nurses at OU Physicians Reproductive Medicine are truly a patient’s lifeline to everything the practice has to offer. Whether it is providing medical support or a smile and hug at a moment of need, the compassion and skill of our nursing team is unsurpassed. Highly trained and experienced, our nursing staff will assist each patient through the steps of their personalized treatment program, while providing emotional support at every turn. Please do not hesitate to ask if you have any questions with your testing/ and/or treatment.
